Cut and Assemble the HOUSE OF THE SEVEN GABLES
[0486261506]
$4.95 $3.96

On one of his many visits to a relative's home in Salem, Massachusetts, Nathaniel Hawthorne learned that the old house had once "had in the history of its changes and alterations, Seven Gables. The expression was new and struck me forcibly" the young author remarked, adding, "I think I shall make something of it."

The house was, indeed, immortalized in Hawthorne's classic novel The House of the Seven Gables. Today this historic building-restored to its appearance at the time of Hawthorne's visits (1820s and 1830s)-remains a monument to America's colonial past. Now, with a few simple tools and clear, easy-to-follow instructions, youngsters as well as hobbyists of all ages can build their own authentic H-0 scale model of the famous American landmark.

Ideal for both home and classroom use, this unique paper project combines all the benefits of a stimulating creative activity with a lesson in American history, architecture and literature. When completed, it will provide an intriguing addition to play and study environments. A fact-filled introduction includes fascinating background information.

Original Dover (1989) publication, published in association with House of the Seven Gables. 6 full-color plates. 3 diagrams. Color illustrations on covers. Instructions. Introduction by K. David Goss. 16pp. 9 1/4 x 12 1/4. Paperbound.
