The McDonnell XP-67 was the McDonnell Aircraft response to a design request by the United States Army Air Corps for a twin-engine, long range, single-seat interceptor aircraft. While the XP-67 was conceptually advanced, it also had its share of problems and never approached its anticipated level of performance.
On September 6th, 1944 the starboard engine caught fire during a test flight causing the aircraft to be declared a total loss. With the destruction of the lone flying prototype the Army decided to cancel the program and the XP-67 was scrapped.
